The first time I saw someone paddle boarding was down the French Broad River in Asheville. I had just completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training and being a lover of water, I found an avenue to connect the two. I completed the Level 1 SUP certification with American Canoe Association. Having my yoga teacher training certification with Yoga Alliance along with my Level 1 SUP certification, I was recruited by the ACA to work along with 12 others with the same credentials, to develop the SUP Yoga program for the ACA.
The passion for the sport led me to explore racing. My first year of racing I placed third in the Southern Stoke race series and competed in the Chattajack. On the beautiful 12’6″ Devil Fish, I placed fourth in the Carolina Cup Harbor Island race. In 2014, I launched Dancing Trees SUP Yoga from Brevard, North Carolina offering stand up paddleboard classes and SUP yoga in the beautiful DuPont State Forest. It was very rewarding watching clients realize the beauty of paddling on some of the most prestene waters. In 2016, I found myself paddling in the Mediterranean Sea. While exploring the European coast, I paddled from Rome to the southern tip of Spain.
Working with Todd Bishop, with Bishop Boards, he created a fitness flow mat that is used in pools to teach yoga and HIIT. I introduced this program to the YMCA in Asheville and am currently leading the programs for Hilton Head Island Recreation Center.
I have since located to Hilton Head Island and am exploring the salt marsh and all there is to offer in this tranquil island.
